This section defines the criteria for membership proposed by WG1, detailing the different levels of membership (defined in terms of location and activity sector of the candidate’s space weather activities). These rules apply during the initial launch phases of the initiative, and can evolve after the formation of the final board (according to the rules set).

Membership

Membership will be considered for all applicants with an interest and competence in Space Weather & Space Climate, regardless of their national origin or residence. All members are welcome to participate actively on the QV_ESWC initiative, and to participate in all its discussions. Certain activities (e.g. voting and elegibility to certain leadership roles) will be restricted to European members and to a core set of Space Weather & Space Climate activity sectors (as defined here). Geographical restrictions (explained here) will be based solely on the member’s work affiliation regardless of national origin or citizenship.

Implementation and verification

New members register through the Voting Registration form indicating their affiliation and activity sector. The board (currently, the Interim Board) will validate membership requests and assign a member status accordingly (e.g, “ordinary” or “affiliate” status according to the rules defined above). Affiliate members are non-voting but retain the possibility of participating actively in all discussions. Applicants who do not find a pertinent fit within the classes proposed are allowed to contact the Board and to provide a brief justification for the membership status they envisage.
